Alan Sheckter arrived at Gary Bess Associates in March 2008 after a 10-year full-time journalism career that included five years as arts editor and photographer at the Chico daily newspaper and two years as news editor at Videomaker, a national camcorder/video-editing magazine.
His proven writing skills and his spirited advocacy for human rights and healthcare entitlement make him a fine match for the Gary Bess team mission, and his interview skills prove advantageous when it comes to communicating with busy agency administrators.
Born and raised near Philadelphia, Alan came to Northern California in 1998. He resides in a mountain home with his wife Donna- a licensed clinical social worker-three cats and a cockatiel. His education includes college coursework at Penn State University that he was proud to turn into a degree some 25 years later at Butte College in California. He also possesses a certificate for completed data processing coursework at Computer Learning Center. Alan is now pursuing a Public Administration degree at California State University, Chico.
An avid music photojournalist, Alan has shot and interviewed more than 250 musical acts over the past 20 years, working with artists both large and small at arenas, festivals, and night clubs. He continues to be a steady contributor to Chico's alternative newsweekly. Galleries of Alan's recent photography can be viewed at www.pbase.com/alansheckter.
