Kate Connelly Brice joined GBA in November of 2015. She hails from the Southside of Chicago and holds a B.A. in Political Science from Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI. While obtaining her degree, Kate founded and ran the Marquette chapter of the Campus Kitchen Project and began her career in the nonprofit sector; she was also awarded a Student Leadership Award for these efforts. Kate also completed an internship with her Congressman, William O. Lipinski, in Washington, D.C. After graduating, she joined the AmeriCorps program, Public Allies, a leadership development program, through which she was employed at the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin (ARCW) Food Pantry. After successfully completing her AmeriCorps program, Kate was asked to stay on at ARCW, where she worked for a total of five years, first in direct service as a residential facilities manager and as a housing case manager, before being promoted to a fund development position as a private grant writer for ARCW’s various social and medical programs, where she raised $1.1 million dollars in funding annually.

Kate is an avid birder, dog lover and nature enthusiast.

She and her partner, Derek, moved to California in 2013 to escape Midwestern winters and to explore her interests in biology at Butte College. During this time she became highly involved with the local Audubon Society, serving as a board member for 2 years, as well as coordinating two multi-year citizen science projects, and coordinating the grants and compiling grant reports for project funders. Since joining GBA Kate has been excited to expand her experience to include Federal and other public municipality funding opportunities, include FQHC applications and reporting compliance. As a grant writer consultant, she has written grant proposals for public and private funding institutions, program activity reports and other correspondence to funders; as well as researched new potential grant opportunities.
